Geosynthetics
Usage of Geosynthetics has grown manyfold these days in geotechnological field in number of ways as of reinforcement of soils, drainage enhancement, filtration, containment i.e geomembranes as shields for solid wastes and liquids, etc.,
As the name itself is self explanatory, it is made up of materials made by man(SYNTHETICS) from earth(GEO). It is not exactly a modern invention, the use of geo materials to reinforce soil and in other cases was dated back to 4000 B.C., where Corduroy Roads are laid with use of timber as reinforcing material to soil to strengthen the roads.
This corduroy road was discovered last March 2016 during construction for the Light Rail Transit that's being built along King St. It's believed to have been built somewhere between the late 1790s and 1816.
In this modern world these geosynthetics are widely used as many types...

- GEOFOAM
- GEOTEXTILES
- GEOGRIDS
- GEONETS
- GEOMEMBRANES
- GEOCOMPOSITES
- GEOCLAYLINERS
- GEOPIPES
THE BASIC FEEDSTOCK FOR ALL GEOPOLYMERS IS ETHYLENE.
