A Steel Flyover which was intended to curb traffic problems in Bengaluru City has now fallen into controversy. This Steel Flyover is planned from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal junction at an initial estimated cost of 1130 crores. People of this region are protesting against the construction due to the reasons like, 812 trees are to be chopped to facilitate the construction and also due to the lack of transparency of the project.
In between this controversy, the contract was awarded to L&T with an estimation of Rupees 1791 crore. Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) gave a assurance that it will plant 60,000 saplings in compensation to the cutting down of trees. Also the weight of the steel blocks is very less when compared to concrete blocks which will be an added benefit. It is estimated that about 2.6 lakh vehicles will use the Steel flyover everyday if constructed. The project will take 24 months to complete.

With the human chain protest held last month(October'16) and the Satyagraha with a conservative estimate of nearly 1,500 participants, Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB), which is spearheading the protest, ascribed this to the interim stay order on the project by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
